We represent the transition year class of Desmond College, Limerick. We came up with this idea after we observed that many people, such as the elderly, those with medical conditions i.e. multiple sclerosis and those with manual dexterity issues were finding it difficult to unlock their doors as they had problems inserting the key into the lock. We thought our device would be a great benefit to these people, as it is extremely easy to use and effective, as all the user has to do is simply slide the key into our device and it will guide the key into the lock.

In addition, we have coated out device in a flouresecent paint that enables the user to use it in the dark. We have begun the process of getting our product patented and have applied for a trademark on our name and logo. Currently there are no other products out there that do what our product does and our research indicated that our product and name are unique.

Product/Service Description

Our idea is to create a device which enables a person in guiding their key into the key hole.  Our device is affixed on to the area around the key hole; the user then simply slides their key into the top part of our device which then guides their key into the key hole. Our device has a wide opening at the top which is where you first slide the key. You then continue to slide the key down our device until you reach the key hole, our device gets narrower the closer you get to the key hole (this creates a “V” shape). This enables the user to guide their key into their key hole with ease.

Our product works with Basta, Union, Yale, Kwikset and any standard mortice lock fitted to the outside of a standard household door. Our reseach indicated that these are the most standard types used with over 542,000 potential customers in Ireland alone.
